Why Colonialism in India

1. The British might have wanted to gain economic benefits by colonizing India. They depended upon their colonies for raw materials and as new markets for their goods to be sold at.

2. Nationalism also served as a reason for colonialism. The European nations felt that in order to prove themselves as a strong world power, they would need to gain control of other countries or land.

3. They felt that they were supreme beings and thus, had the right to colonize and help other countries that were below them in standards to improve.
